HOLLYWOOD PRAYER NETWORK

One of the greatest spheres of influence in the United States is the entertainment industry. Through movies, music, TV, and their financial support of political agendas, media personalities have an impact on the way people think and how they view the world.

In July of 2001, TV producer Karen Covell founded the Hollywood Prayer Network (HPN) with the support of the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood. She believes that Hollywood is not “Sodom and Gomorrah” but “Nineveh” — it is a redeemable place, full of redeemable people.

At one time Karen Covell reported that HPN had identified 5,000 people in the industry who were believers — actors, directors, producers, writers, etc. Karen has a passion to see men and women in the entertainment industry come to faith in Jesus. She has recruited prayer partners for many in the industry and publishes a bi-weekly “Call Sheet” with names of people in the industry to pray for.

We know there are believers in Hollywood. They seldom get recognition for their faith, and if there is recognition it is often cast in a negative light. Praise the Lord for those who remain faithful. Pray for those who struggle to live their faith in this tough environment. Pray for those who are not believers that God will touch their hearts. Pray for modern-day Jonahs to enter this land of Nineveh and call this community to repentance.

Cecil B. DeMille once said, “I have found the greatest power in the world, is the power of prayer.” If you or people you know in your church follow the affairs of Hollywood, check out the Hollywood Prayer Network. You can sign up for the bi-weekly Call Sheet. Perhaps you can become a prayer partner to someone in the industry.

Imagine what could happen if there was a spiritual awakening in Hollywood!
